Rude Girls stunned by tearaway teens

League champions Rude Girls crashed to their biggest defeat in four years as they failed to stop PHC's tearaway teens Tschana Wade and Waynesha Bean in the women's FA Cup final yesterday.

Losing out in the league race on goal difference after being the only team to inflict defeat on Rude Girls, PHC were determined to settle the score as the pace of 16-year-old Wade and Bean (19) caused the champions' defence some early problems.

After just four minutes Bean sprinted past Richetta Warner and into the box before lifting her shot over the bar. At the other end the league's top scorer, Chevonne Furbert, did the same for Rude Girls.

Rude Girls lost Marcia Ford in the 33rd minute when she was carried off and taken to the waiting ambulance with an ankle injury. She was then transported to the hospital. Six minutes later PHC broke the deadlock when Wade showed good composure to score with a low shot inside the near post.

But the league champions were quick to respond, netting in the final minute of the half when Tamisha Darrell laid off a short pass to Furbert inside the box and the striker smashed her 40th goal of the season into the roof of the net.

Five minutes of stoppage time almost produced a second goal for PHC who threatened with two late corners.

Two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half blew the game wide open for the Zebras as Rude Girls wondered what hit them. A terrific shot from 25 yards by midfielder Stacy Babb hit the roof of the net as national team goalkeeper Tanika White was caught off guard in the 47th minute.

Confident Zebras lift cup From Page 27 Their confidence soaring, PHC extended their lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute when White twice failed to pick up the ball at the near post and the alert Wade nipped in to score.

Wade then turned provider for PHC's fourth goal in the 68th minute when she fed Bean a perfect pass at the far post and her strike partner carried the ball forward a few strides before slotting it past the stunned White.

Bean was carried off with a leg injury in the 77th minute as Rude Girls upped the tempo with Chevonne Furbert twice going close.

But it was clearly not to be their day when they missed a penalty five minutes from the end. Furbert was fouled as Ralph Tumbridge pointed to the spot but captain Sakena Clarke's spot kick hit the base of the post.

Sharmaine Simmons of Rude Girls was carried off in injury time, complaining of dizziness, after taking a blow to the head in a challenge.

Rude Girls still came away from the match with some silverware after being presented with the league trophy yet again.
