Culinary teams to enter prestigious competitions
The Island's top chefs will take part in four major culinary competitions following the cancellation of last month's Taste of the Caribbean competition.
Officials of the Bermuda National Culinary Team yesterday announced that the team will represent the Island at the prestigious Salon Culinaire International Competition in Guernsey this April.
The team members have since been entered in three other culinary competitions,'' said team Chairman Graham Redford. "The senior team has been entered in the First Meat Export Federation/E&J Gallo Winery Recipes Competition, a result of the efforts on the part of the Caribbean Culinary Federation, the sponsor of Taste of the Caribbean.
"Other team members will have an opportunity to enter a regional competition for Best Young Commis Rotisseur followed by an international competition in September 1999.'' And the Island's best will also enter the Best of the Caribbean competition at America's Food and Beverage Show and Conference at the World Trade Centre in Miami from December 2 to 4.
The Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Puerto Rico was cancelled last month due to the mass destruction caused by Hurricane Georges.
Bermuda's junior team brought home the gold and the senior team the silver at last year's competition and hopes were high that the team's recipe for success would be repeated this year.
