Seniors join in as on-Island tourism ambassadors
Senior citizens are now serving as on-Island ambassadors for the Department of Tourism.
The Senior Ambassador Programme was announced at a press conference yesterday by Premier and Tourism Minister Ewart Brown.
Eleven seniors have signed on to help promote the Island to visitors this year.
"For the past six weeks our seniors have been actively promoting Bermuda sights and attractions interacting with visitors on the ferries and providing information and assistance to visitors travelling to the Royal Naval Dockyard, Hamilton and Town of St. George," said Dr. Brown.
"The Senior Ambassadors have truly been a valuable asset to the tourism industry as they have showcased true Bermudian hospitality to our visitors."
The Department of Tourism started its Pop and Sizzle Ambassadors programme three years ago. As part of it, tourism and hospitality students spend ten weeks promoting the Island.
"As a Pop and Sizzle Ambassador, a student's primary goal is to ensure that visitors are having an enjoyable experience in Bermuda and provide them with any information requested on transportation, Bermuda's attractions, restaurants and offer any assistance required," Dr. Brown explained.
He continued: The 2010 Senior and Pop and Sizzle Ambassador Programme is a true testament of two generations of tourism ambassadors working together to ensure that visitors travelling to the Island have a unique and enjoyable experience while in Bermuda."
