Lupus concert
as awareness of an incurable, but manageable disorder.
Under the distinguished patronage of Rev. Canon Thomas Nisbett OBE and Mrs.
Nisbett the Lupus Association of Bermuda presents `A Night of Praise to celebrate living well with Lupus'. The gospel concert, to be held at Christ Church, Devonshire on Thursday, November 6 at 7.30 p.m. will feature Grace Dorsey Landy.
An accomplished gospel artist, Ms Landy has taken her ministry across the US and Canada and now makes her home in Bermuda, She has recorded with Jerome Robertson and Prayz, appeared on Bobby Jones Gospel, and has also shared her inspirational message through concerts, conferences, revivals, street and prison ministries and benefits for the hungry.
The gospel programme will also include other soloists, two choirs, a saxophonist, a mother and daughter sign language duo and scripture reciting by a very inspiring young man.
Lupus in an incurable disease in which the body's immune system form antibodies that attack healthy tissue and organs.
This results in inflammation, serious injury to tissues and disabling pain. It affects men and women of all ages and, if left untreated, can be fatal. There is not a cure for Lupus, but symptoms can be treated.
Funds raised from the concert will enable the Lupus Association of Bermuda to continue its work, providing educational and financial support to Lupus patients, families and friends, raising awareness among the public and health professionals in our community, and funding research on Lupus through the Lupus Foundation of America.
Tickets are available for purchase at The Christian Bookstore, Burnaby Street, Hamilton. Patron tickets are $20, general admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
*** On the evening of Saturday, November 1 the City Hall Theatre will be filled with the sounds of "Classics are Cool''.
The Bermuda Conservatory of Music presents this programme to families and music lovers of all ages.
Four musicians, who all share their love for classics in music will present this concert.
The programme consists of music by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Frederick Chopin, Gabriel Faure, Claude Bolling and George and Ira Gershwin.
Susan Soehner, pianist and faculty member at the Bermuda Conservatory, will present music by Mozart and Chopin. She also accompanies for the rest of the programme.
Liz Pitman, cellist and Warwick Academy Primary School teacher, will perform music by Faure and Bolling.
Reggie Woods Sr., drummer, has been playing the drums around Bermuda for over 30 years.
Kim Kleason, flautist, has been playing the flute for 30 years. She came to Bermuda in 1996 and sings with the Bermuda Chamber Choir.
These musicians will present a lively evening that is sure to make "classic cool'' for everyone.
The concert has been underwritten by renaissance Reinsurance with all proceeds going to the music scholarship fund at the Bermuda Conservatory of Music.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors and are available from Opus, The Conservatory or any of the musicians.
