cannabis was seized in St. George's this weekend.

Police spokeswoman Insp. Roseanda Jones said yesterday that narcotics officers confiscated the drugs on Saturday afternoon, although she could not say where in St. George's they were seized or under what circumstances.

The accused, who were not identified by name, included a 52-year-old Pembroke man and two others from St. George's aged 39 and 40.

POLICE BREAK UP DRUG-RELATED FIGHT CRM Police break up drug-related fight A 35-year-old Warwick man was sent to King Edward VII Hospital with head and leg injuries yesterday after Police broke up a fight on Sound View Drive in Sandys that involved a knife and a baseball bat.

The second man, a 23-year-old Sandys resident, was treated for minor head injuries and released. A 21-year-old Pembroke man who was also involved in the fracas was uninjured.

All three have been arrested and their weapons seized, Insp. Jones said. She added: "The motive behind this disturbance is believed to be drug-related.'' VAS CHIEF IN COURT FOR BINGO CTS VSB chief in court for bingo Broadcaster Kenneth Defontes and owner of Freeport Gardens Bingo Neil Inchcup Friday pleaded not guilty to running a lottery, namely Freeport Bingo.

VSB-TV chief DeFontes and Inchcup appeared in Magistrates' Court where they denied violating the Lotteries Act.

Inchcup was further charged with conducting the lottery under the name Freeport Bingo and running it in the Dockyard clocktower building. He pleaded not guilty.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis set a trial date of April 17. Mr.

ARRIVALS CLIMB SIX PERCENT TOU Arrivals climb six percent Visitor arrivals were up by more than six percent last week compared with the same week in 1993.

Between November 28 and December 4, 4,397 visitors arrived in Bermuda by air.

This compares favourably with 4,131 in 1993 -- an increase of 6.4 percent, according to Government figures issued yesterday.

Overall, there has been a 4.3 percent increase in air and cruise ship arrivals since last year.

To date, 576,442 visitors have arrived in Bermuda compared with 552,610 in 1993.

NEIGBOURHOOD WATCH MEETING ON CRM Neigbourhood Watch meeting on Sandys residents, concerned about crime in their area, may soon be able to participate in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

"Areas in which Neighbourhood Watch is set up, crime is definitely much lower than where it isn't,'' Inspector Roseanda Jones said.

A public meeting for residents of the Woodlawn and White Hill area tonight is aimed at setting up a Watch in that area.

It takes place at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall on Hog Bay Level.

Sandy's Parish Constable Christopher Clarke will hold the meeting.

ASSAULT ON OFFICER CASE TO GO TO JURY CTS Assault on officer case to go to jury The case of two Bermuda men charged with doing grievous bodily harm to a Bermuda Police officer is expected to go to the jury today.

Dexter Heyliger, 33, and Sinclair Smith, 28, have denied assaulting P.c. Joe McRonald after he tried to arrest them for drunk driving on February 25.

In the trial held in Supreme Court last week, the two accused were represented by Mr. Philip Perinchief, and the Crown was represented by Mr. Peter DeJulio.

Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Meerabux is to charge the six-man, six-woman jury this morning.
