Bailey's Bay gets sidewalk
safety of pedestrians as they walk between nearby attractions.
A spokeswoman for the Works and Engineering Ministry said yesterday the area between Crystal Caves on Wilkinson Avenue and the Perfume Factory, Bailey's Bay Refreshment, and the Swizzle Inn on North Shore Road, is a frequent accident spot and had long been earmarked for improvement.
"That area is one of the worst accident spots on our roads and the work will include a sidewalk and bus shelter,'' she said.
Another major Works and Engineering project, the Horseshoe Beach public restrooms are expected to be finished by the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend.
There have been significant delays in getting roofing supplies from overseas, but the work is about "95 percent'' finished, the spokeswoman said.
Problems with dirty and soiled portable toilets over the weekend are blamed on the private contractor not being able to empty the waste at the Tynes Bay Waste facility.
The public are being asked to "bear with'' the problem while the finishing touches to the beach house are completed.
The 25-year-old facility is being upgraded. During the summer some 7,000 people descend on the beach.
