Mark Roland Gilder, 32, of South Road, Paget, had lost his job and will be returning to the United Kingdom, the court was told.

Gilder, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Carl McCoy on January 16, was given a conditional discharge by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis.

Prosecuting, Police Sgt. Peter Giles said Gilder worked as a butcher at Modern Mart in Paget until he grabbed his meat manager by the collar and drew his right hand back as if he was about to punch him.

McCoy said he had pointed out Gilder was violating store policy by not wearing his butcher's hat. The two went downstairs to discuss the matter and an argument started, Sgt. Giles said.

Gilder said he was upset by the recent death of his grandmother and McCoy's threats to "have him shipped off the Island,'' he said.

"He's actually been punished a great deal,'' said Mr. Nicholas Dill in asking for leniency.
