Gas barbecue warning issued
using gas barbecues.
The warning comes after firefighters had to put out a blazing barbecue in the garden of a house in North Street, Pembroke.
Eleven members of the Fire Service fought the blaze which started because of a gas leak and caused around $200 worth of damage.
According to Lt. Jon Thompson barbecue fires are made more hazardous because the heat could cause the gas cylinder to explode.
He advised users to have the correct fire extinguisher handy, but said that a simple test by putting soapy water on the gas pipe showed if the pipe was leaking before the barbecue was even lit.
PASTRY CHEF IMPORTED COKE CTS Pastry chef imported coke A former cook on the cruise ship Nordic Prince yesterday appeared in Supreme Court and admitted importing cocaine.
Pastry chef Norven Anthony DaCosta, from Jamaica, pleaded guilty to importing the drug on or about May 12, and was remanded in custody.
DaCosta, 29, is due to appear again tomorrow, represented by Mr. Julian Hall MP.

Coolridge Eve told Magistrates' Court that he was guilty of breaking and entering the property on South Road, Paget, with the intention of stealing.
At the time of the incident however, Eve said he was looking for the owner of the apartments at which Mrs. McCann and her husband John McCann were staying.
Prosecuting Sgt. Rex Osborne said: "Mrs. McCann went into the kitchen and found the defendant stooping over and searching through a beach bag. She asked him who he was and what he was doing there. He said he was looking for the owner.
"Her husband entered the kitchen and the defendant walked out of the door.
Mr. McCann followed him and saw him jump over a wall, instead of going to the manager's office. Police arrested him later.'' Eve, 33, of South Road, Southampton, has served previous sentences for breaking and entering and prowling.
His lawyer Miss Patricia Harvey said that Eve had been trying to get a job and had been working for a relation recently.
She asked Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to consider finding a punishment which would help his rehabilitation.
Mr. Francis agreed that a social inquiry report should be prepared before he made any decision.

Less than 20 minutes later nine firefighters put out a blaze in Marsh Valley Road, Pembroke. Both fires are under investigation.
Three fire engines rushed to a reported fire at the Public Transportation Board building in Palmetto Road, Devonshire.
An unattended pan on a stove caught fire and caused $10 worth of damage at Cavendish Apartments in Devonshire. The fire service put out the fire.
PROWLER FLEES CRM Prowler flees A prowler jumped off the ledge from a second-floor bedroom window and fled after being spotted lurking at the nurses quarters at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Nurses, alerted by a noise, saw the man at around 12.45 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say the stockily-built man was black, 5 ft. 11 in., and was wearing a bright yellow shirt T-shirt and dark trousers.
