There are no hairs and graces with Alexander!
A courageous 11-year-old boy shaved his head in front of his school in honour of St. Baldrick’s Day.
Alexander Davis was inspired after seeing others with shaved heads two years ago. However, a school holiday over the event last year postponed it.
This year, he got his chance with his father joining him for moral support at the event at Saltus. St. Baldrick’s Day is a fusion of St. Patrick’s Day and bald, as the original head-shaving, which took place in 2000, was on St. Patrick’s Day.
From 2000 to 2006, more than 26,000 people have shaved their heads and raised more than $20 million for childhood cancer research. Alexander managed to raise $500 outside of school with the help of his church and a ‘grub day’, where children needed to give $4 to not wear their uniforms, would hopefully raise another $1,000.
James Davis, Alexander’s father, said: “We’ve left it up to him to raise the money because it’s his decision to do it. I think he is the youngest to do it and I’m just there for moral support.”
Alexander said he was ready to do it and added: “Some say I’m very brave. Others say I’m nice, but they’re all curious to see how white it will be.”
While Alexander wasn’t able to recruit any of his peers before he shaved his head, Mr. Davis said they were all excited and about eight were ready to do it next year.
Others participating in St. Baldrick’s Day shaved their heads at the Robin Hood Pub.
