?Peace in the Streets? hailed as big success
A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered in Court Street on Monday evening for a ?Peace in the Streets? event hosted by Fresh TV and the Uptown Market Association. Performers included Troy Anthony and Fire Kid, Tiny T and Stevie Dread and Toro.
Although there were only around 20 people in the audience an hour into the show, Fresh station owner Elmore Warren said it was ?awesome? and ?well-supported?. He estimated that around 200 people dropped by over the course of the event which ran until 11 p.m.
Mr. Warren said he felt the turnout may have been affected by the fact that the concert was originally scheduled for May 24 but was delayed due to what he termed ?technical difficulties.?
The event went out live on Fresh ? the first such broadcast since the channel was knocked off the air in February by an accident on Court Street where a truck driver knocked over a utility pole.
Those who gathered to watch the show praised the organisers for organising a great night.
Bertha White, 52, from Pembroke said: ?They should have events like this more often ? although they need some gospel music!? And a 48-year-old from the neighbourhood who gave her name as ?Cookie? said: ?I?m looking forward to seeing Tiny T. I helped make her what she is. I just pray for no violence tonight.?
Finance Minister Paula Cox said the event demonstrated how economic empowerment, safety and security in the Court Street areas were top priorities.
