Halloween concert a real treat!

BHS Halloween Musicians

We always do a Halloween Concert for parents and children as they arrive at school in the morning. This year was no exception, although our rehearsals were interrupted by Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Gonzalo.

We had to give up our lunch times this week to put in extra practices so that we would be ready.

We played “scary” music, in what are called minor keys on our piano, flutes, clarinets, saxophones and violins. Minor keys in music are designed to give a haunting, scary, terrifying sound!

We all wore our Halloween costumes. There was an Angel, an Alien from Outer Space, lots of witches and we even had Harry Potter make an appearance!

Our music included Did I see a Witch Last Night, The Dead of Night, Spooky Footsteps, Mysterious March and The Scary Graveyard.

Two of our Year Five children, Ava Adams and Ava Gibson, also performed a flute and violin duet of Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter.

We constructed our own Halloween Poster for the occasion so that parents could see it when they arrived. It consisted of pictures of pumpkins, witches, goblins and scary writing! We gave up a lot of our recesses to have it ready for the concert.

We got lots of applause from parents as they dropped off their children at the Ramp. Some cars slowed down so much to listen that there was almost a traffic jam!

On Friday evening at our School Halloween Fair on the school field, we stood outside the Haunted House and performed again, adding to the scary atmosphere!

On behalf of all the musicians we want to thank our teacher, Dr Tully, for all the hard work he put in these past few weeks to make the day a huge success.

After the midterm break we will start preparations for our Christmas Concert!

Genevieve and Hailey are Year Seven students at BHS.
