A member of the public has called for access to one of the island’s top beaches to be restored five months after a hurricane battered the entry to Elbow Beach.

The popular South Shore beach in Paget bore the brunt of storm surge from Hurricane Teddy, which swept past the island on September 21.

Teddy edged by Bermuda as a strong Category 1 storm, generating powerful swells that pulled much of the sand from Elbow Beach, bringing down a seawall and the stairs from the foot of Tribe Road 4B.

The Government reported at the time that the Ministry of Public Works would repair the damage.

But yesterday a member of the public posted photographs on Twitter of makeshift beach access, including a wooden pallet, questioning “are we waiting until someone really gets hurt” before the access was restored.

A query to the ministry received no response by press time last night.
