<Bz25>Pernod wins legal victory

MADRID (Bloomberg) -- Pernod Ricard SA, the world's second-largest liquor company, yesterday won a legal victory over use of the Havana Club rum trademark in Spain.A court in Madrid barred Bacardi Ltd., the world's biggest rum maker, from using the brand in Spain, Paris-based Pernod said in an e-mailed statement. The court said consumers would be misled by the sale of a rum made outside Cuba under the name, according to the statement.

Pernod and Bacardi have disputed the right to the Havana Club trademark for a decade. The US Patent and Trademark Office last year barred Pernod from selling the rum in the country. Hamilton, Bermuda-based Bacardi said in August it had applied to register the brand in its own name in the US.
