It's child's play as machine creates snow in Bermuda
Christmas and snow are pretty synonymous in many countries around the world.
Not so in Bermuda where thousands regularly trek to the beach on December 25 and toast friends and family as they bake in warm sunshine.
There is now an alternative a snow machine capable of filling 1,500 square feet in ten to 15 minutes.
BermyNet owner Brenton Richardson is behind the scheme.
He bought the machine from a Texas-based company.
"Three years ago I brought in a foam machine which was very well received by the public. We did numerous events private birthday parties to nightlife events and because of the popularity of the first machine we thought that we should try something totally new and different for people to enjoy.
"I actually was exposed to it for the first time in a shopping mall in California and always thought that the idea of being able to have snow in Bermuda would be very cool."
The snow is 99.9 percent water-based. The remainder is non-toxic and will not burn the skin.
Like real snow, it has no smell or taste and there is zero clean-up the snow melts into the ground and isn't sticky.
Best of all, it isn't cold.
Mr. Richardson said: "We debuted it at the Winter White Party at Latin [Restaurant]. It was very well received. It's great for outdoor events, birthday parties, corporate events. It's great all year round."
The machine can produce snow continuously for an hour on a gallon of solution, or three hours if it's done in spurts.
"The machine itself shoots snow 50 feet in the air. It shoots wide at 30 feet. The coverage is anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 feet. There's a switch that can change the size of the snowflakes it can go from small snowflakes to a large blizzard effect. But you have to take into account the weather conditions."
Wind, he said, is a factor.
The machine costs $1,000 for 24 hours. Cheaper rates are available for less time.
