St. David's mom proves there's no trick to cheap candy treats
Malinda O'Connor, of St. David's, knows what Hallowe'en is all about -- and it's not because she is the mother of four children.
For the last four years she has been supplying her friends and neighbours with all their Hallowe'en candy and trinkets for no more than $5.
Under the name Twin Creations, Ms O'Connor has put many a smile of kids faces who are looking for a little Hallowe'en trinket and a bag of mixed candy.
"I got into this for my children because it is very expensive. When I buy in bulk things are cheaper so I started bringing things in for my children and people in my neighbourhood saw what I had and wanted to buy them.
"This way the parents are happy because they are spending less money and the kids are happy,'' Miss O'Connor said.
She added: "I bring in things like masks, bulk mixed candy which you cannot find in Bermuda unless you are paying a high price, flash lights for the kids with batteries included to use while trick-or-treating, face painting kits, glow in the dark tattoos, Hallowe'en punch balloons and trick or treat bags.
"Now since everyone knows that I have a little business I put up signs around the area and people come to my house to buy my items.
"I also have feather, sequin, and theatrical masks for adults, but some of the adults do buy them for their children. A lot of the masks are one of a kind they are all colours and shapes.'' Ms O'Connor said there are about six different varieties of mixed candy in each bag which she sells for $5 a pound.

Last year I brought in 50 pounds of candy but this year I brought in 100 pounds. I keep my prices very reasonable and they are the same every year. I do it for fun not the financial gain.
"I bring in a different variety of things every year the only thing that stays the same is the mixed candy.'' She added that her friends and children help to bag up and sort out the candy.
"This is first come first serve and once what I have is gone it's gone I don't re-order,'' Ms O'Connor said.
