involved in a head-on collision with a truck.

The accident occurred at around 1 p.m., on Middle Road, Southampton, near Granaway Heights Road.

The officers from Somerset Police Station were travelling east when they rounded a corner and in collision with a Nissan truck belonging to Air Care Ltd. The driver of the truck, a 33-year-old Devonshire man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and released after being treated for abrasions to his legs.

The officers were also rushed to the hospital with cuts to their faces and other injuries.

Ms Karen Oliveira, who lives near the scene of the accident, did not witness the collision, but heard the impact.

"I heard two screeches, one after the other and then a crashing noise,'' she told The Royal Gazette . Ms Oliveira, a reserve Police officer, rushed outside and saw a Policemen get out of the car. While an ambulance was called she and her father administered first aid.

She said the officers, aged 22 and 19 years, sustained cuts and lacerations to their faces, elbows and knees.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said yesterday that one officer was being X-rayed and the other required stitches to cuts on his face.

Although the extent of the injuries was unknown, Sgt. Dale said they were "not life-threatening''.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The force of the impact crushed the front end of the Police car and shattered the windscreen. Broken glass littered the road.

Traffic had to be directed around the crash site for more than an hour while the two vehicles were towed away and the road was cleared.
