Marine clean-up for three further locations
In an ongoing initiative to clean-up the Island's water, Ely's Harbour, Scaur Bay and Pilchard Bay are being lined up as the next targets.
Previous clean-ups have been carried out at Mill's Creek, Pembroke, Mullet Bay, St. George's and Jew's Bay, Southampton.
The marine clean-up will take place on Tuesday, October 20 to dispose of sunken and abandoned boats.
A spokesman for the Department of Marine and Ports said: "A preliminary survey of these areas identified approximately 15 sunken and abandoned boats that will be removed.
"All sunken, overturned and unlicensed boats will be removed. Punts also need to be registered or they risk being removed. All boats, punts and moorings must be registered with the Department of Marine and Ports, Boats and Moorings Section."
Correctly registered boats display the current Marine and Ports decal on the starboard bow with the boat's registration number displayed on the port and starboard bow.
The initiative is being undertaken as part of a cross-ministerial group comprised of members of the Marine Police, Marine and Ports, Department of Parks, Environmental Protection, Conservation Services, Waste Management and the private sector.
The objective is the removal and disposal of neglected boats that present navigational threats to mariners, storage challenges to punt and larger vessel owners and health and safety threats to swimmers and marine life.
