Search for missing man continues today
Search efforts will continue for a third day at first light this morning in Ely’s Harbour for 49-year-old Derek Spenser who was last seen around 4.30pm on Wednesday.The marine search resumed at 9am yesterday by marine police. Troops from the Bermuda Regiment, Marine and Ports and the Department of Environmental Protection Fisheries Section assisted with a number of private vessels.Divers combed through the water while police officers and volunteers conducted a foot search of the surrounding area, including several small islands in Ely’s Harbour and along Wreck Road.Mr Spenser’s punt was found unoccupied with the engine still running on Thursday morning. A police spokesman issued another ‘thank you’ to members of the public, including “private area land owners, and private vessel operators” and all those who have assisted thus far.The search was suspended around 4.15pm yesterday due to low visibility. Any “private vessel operators or members of the public that can further assist” are encouraged to contact Police.Mr Spenser is described as brown skinned, of slim to medium build with close cut hair (grey in front) and a grey moustache.Meanwhile, anyone with any information on Mr Spenser’s last known whereabouts or movements since Wednesday afternoon is urged to contact police on 295-0011 as the inquiry continues.
