Breaking News: Shooting suspect charged

Omari Gordon

Shooting suspect Omari Gordon was charged in court this morning — days after he was apprehended after 13 months on the run.

Gordon, 27, allegedly shot at three Police officers in Middletown on November 29, 2008. He escaped, sparking a lengthy Police hunt, which culminated in his arrest at a house in Sandys on Thursday.

Security was heavy at Magistrates’ Court for Gordon’s appearance, with around 15 Police officers inside the court and more armed officers outside.

Gordon was charged with discharging several shots from a firearm and making use of a firearm with intent to resist arrest. He did not have to enter a plea during his brief court appearance as the matters must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.

His lawyer, Charles Richardson, made no application for bail and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him into custody pending an administrative hearing on January 25.
