to continue leading the Country.

And an enthusiastic Sir John said he is ready to begin work on the United Bermuda Party's pre-election promises set out in the campaign Blueprint.

The Premier said he was delighted to once again receive the support of his colleagues and the public who gave the Government a mandate for at least another four years in power.

In yesterday morning's caucus meeting all 22 Members of Parliament supported the reaffirmation of the Premier.

The motion to re-elect Sir John in the Country's top job was forwarded by Minister of Health, Housing and Social Services the Hon. Quinton Edness.

The Hon. Sen. Michael Winfield said: "The Premier was thanked for his leadership and there is no question that he has a determination to carry out the commitments of the Blueprint.

"There was never any doubt he would get the job again. A few people made speeches praising his work.'' New Member of Parliament Sen. Jerome Dill said: "It is wonderful that the Premier was reaffirmed. It is the best thing for the country right now.

"It was a very tight election but the people made the decision that they want us and not the Opposition. One of the things those people voted for was that Sir John Swan would continue as leader.

"There was never any question in anyone's mind about who the leader would be when we met today.

"We are all grateful for the hard work he has done and the leadership that he has shown others.

"He has gone on record stating that he has a plan for Bermuda's future and he is the man who can fulfil everything there, mainly because he has shown he can do it in the past.'' The Premier paid tribute to all the workers, supporters and voters who re-elected the UBP, leading to his extended term. He thanked people for the support and good wishes he has received during the campaign.

His re-affirmation was unopposed and no surprise. It was a lot smoother than in 1989 when there were some doubts over his continuation.

Sir John said: "I have the full support of my colleagues to get on with the job. To basically carry on where I left off.

"I believe that in this election there was level of dissatisfaction which was an obvious factor in the polling results.

"As much as I think we are on the right track we have obviously got to do more.'' The Premier was referring to the Blueprint which included 110 things the UBP had promised to do.

Sir John refused to speculate on whether his premiership would last the full term of the Government until the late 1990s.

He said: "I have always said that my premiership is determined by the support I receive from my colleagues and from the public at large. I must also be satisfied that I am doing the best job I can.''
