Fighting fit and raring to go . . .
I've just had the shortest summer break I can remember, but I'm fit and ready to go for the new season.
It was frustrating getting my calf injury during the preparations for the first El Salvador World Cup game and I wasn't happy about missing the second leg - especially with the disappointment of getting knocked out of the competition.
Two days later I flew back to England and two days after that I was in with the Reading physio getting treatment on the calf - that's all the summer break I got.
The rest of the lads started training again and I missed out on the first first week because they were still working on me, but it was a good feeling when I finally got back on the field again and could join in.
I was only a week behind and fortunately it didn't take too long before I joined in with everyone else.
I played 45 minutes against Bath, a non-league side, and I got a goal before we headed off to Sweden for a mini-tour.
Those trips are always good for bonding, although it got a bit boring because we were so isolated, especially towards the end of the week when we were training less because we had matches coming up.
I scored again when we won 6-0 but the next game was like a school game. We won 13-0 but I couldn't get on the scoresheet. It was one of those crazy games, but we played well and it was good to share the wealth with the other guys.
Unfortunately I haven't played more than 45 minutes in any of the games so far which means I am not quite 100 percent yet for the new season.
That sort of fitness can only come from playing full matches and I hope that once the season gets going I'll be able to get those types of games under my belt.
The season starts on Saturday against Brighton and I am hoping to hold down a regular place in the team and continue where I left off last year.
It was a strange year for me last season, I only scored a disappointing 13 goals but I still finished top scorer.
Normally I look to get 20-plus but even though it was only 13 that I got, I was still there or thereabouts with my goals-to-games ratio.
I only started 27 games and I got 13 goals, so that is a tiny bit off my goal-every-two-games target.
And this year I am looking to do the same.
I have to be realistic about what I am going to achieve, I want to get around 20 goals, but even if I don't, I want to be scoring every other game.
I am the number one striker at this club, that is how I am approaching the season and that is how I am going to play.
We have made some good signings, particularly the US international Bobby Convey.
I have only trained with him once but he looks to have a great first touch and good technical ability. He is going to play as a winger for us, so he is a player that it is important I build a relationship with.
He has played for his country in some big games, so he should be a good signing. He will have to adjust to the faster pace of the English game compared to the MLS, but hopefully he can make an impact and help us push up the Division.

Changing the name of the Division One to the Championship is a clever marketing ploy - but nothing else.
Coca-Cola took over the league and decided they wanted to make sure their name would get known, so they introduced this Coca-Cola Championship thing.
For us it means nothing. All that matters is that we are the division below the Premiership and it doesn't matter what they call our league so long as we remember that.
Our aim is to get promoted and into the top division in English football. That is what it is all about.
