Kyme hoping to reign in Spain
Nick Kyme scraped through into the quarter-finals of the $6000 Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona in a five game thriller yesterday.
Number four seed Kyme, ranked 78 in the world, beat Swede Bader Abdel Aziz 8-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6, 12-10 in the opening round of the event, his second of the season.
?It was a tough game,? said Kyme, whose victory was the fifth of his pro career.
?He?s quick and his a shotmaker which put a lot of pressure on me but I gutted out for the win.
?It was hard right through to the end but it?s a great feeling to get that first win of the season under my belt.?
Following his victory over the 140th-ranked player, Kyme will now take on Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet in the quarter-finals tomorrow night.
Teenager Castagnet, last year?s top-ranked European junior and currently ranked 175 in the world, beat number seven seed Tom Richards of England in the opening round.
Meanwhile fellow Bermudian James Stout, ranked 173, was beaten in the second qualifying round of the event.
Stout defeated Albert Hernandez of Spain 11-5, 11-3, 11-3 before falling to rising star Chris Simpson of Brighton, England, ) 11-3, 11-10 (2-0), 11-10 (4-2).
