Lightbourne gets a crack at former club
today with a firm message from his manager Kenny Hibbitt -- do not try to prove a point.
But it does not mean that the Bermudian is not determined to give his former team-mates something to think about on their drive home from the Midlands after the match.
"I'm definitely looking forward to it,'' Lightbourne said last night from his home in Walsall. "I don't have anything to prove to them, I just want to have a good game and score a few goals so they can see they made a wrong decision.'' Lightbourne was one of seven players released by Scarborough in April when Phil Chambers took over as manager from Ray McHale. According to Lightbourne, Chambers has been demoted from his position with the club though he will be in charge of the team today while a replacement is sought.
"I phoned the people I was staying with in Scarborough and they told me,'' Lightbourne explained. "The fans are not happy with the way the season has been going so far. A lot of them said they weren't happy that they let me go.
I was happy to hear that.'' Lightbourne is pencilled in to start his sixth straight match for Walsall and he will be looking for his first goal since scoring on his debut against Hereford last month. The team has only scored one goal since then though they have not lost, Lightbourne points out.
They have drawn their last two games 0-0, including a match on Tuesday against Northampton in the Autoglass Trophy.
"I think I have played quite well to hold my spot, since we have just signed a new striker from a non-league team,'' said Lightbourne. "I had a header saved in the last minute of the game on Saturday (against Rochdale) and their goalkeeper was the man of the match.
"The gaffer (manager Hibbitt) is pleased with the way I've been playing. He spoke to me today about Scarborough being my old team and told me don't go out there and try to prove a point. There are a lot of new players there (at Scarborough) with only about three or four there from last season.'' The other Bermudian in the English League, Shawn Goater, played in Rotherham's 2-1 win over Doncaster in the Autoglass Trophy on Monday, setting up the first goal.
Goater has been out of the team in the last few games but played in midweek because of the injury to another player and according to Lightbourne who spoke to him this week: "He says he's finding his form.'' Rotherham are away to Brighton today.
KYLE LIGHTBOURNE.
