Suspect recaptured

Tuesday escaped from Police custody at Prospect yesterday, but was recaptured about four hours later.

The man, accused of stealing two cars and damaging five Police vehicles on Tuesday, was on the run again yesterday after he climbed through a bathroom window at Police headquarters at about 2.30 p.m.

At the time, John Sinclar (Bubbles) Anderson, 27, of Glebe Road, Pembroke, was being interviewed by detectives.

Police, who described the suspect as "dangerous'', would only say that he was wanted "on several other matters''. But it is understood he was the same suspect arrested near Bailey's Bay on Tuesday after a high-speed chase.

The arrest was made at about 6.15 p.m. at a Police roadblock at Somerset Bridge. The man was driving a car at the time of his arrest. It was not immediately known whether the car was reported stolen.

Earlier in the day, Police had looked for Anderson near West Pembroke School and in the Middletown area.

Shortly after 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday, Police collared a 27-year-old man on Cottage Lane who had rammed a Police cruiser, van, and motorcycle with a stolen Mazda 323 sports coupe.

The man had been sought in connection with two car thefts.

MANHUNT -- Police scoured Pembroke yesterday after a man escaped from Prospect during questioning. The suspect was later arrested at a roadblock near Somerset.
