CedarBridge students get another chance to sit exams
CedarBridge Academy students who fell foul of the school uniform code and other school requirements will be given another opportunity to sit their exams by the end of the week.
Chief Education Officer Joseph Christopher revealed last night that some of the affected students had already sat their final exams. Dr. Christopher said all students were well aware of school uniform standards which had been applied consistently throughout the year.
The Ministry of Education and the CedarBridge Academy Code of Conduct stated students were required to wear the correct uniform and have a student ID every day at school, he said.
These requirements were stressed by Principal Kalmar Richards at school assembly in the days leading up to the examinations.
In addition, he said, students were given handouts spelling out the requirements, along with their examination schedules.
He said a number of students who arrived without IDs on Tuesday morning were required to pay $5 for a replacement before being admitted to school.
Other students arrived without the proper shoes and were sent home to retrieve the appropriate footwear.
He said most of the students managed to do this without incident, returning to school in time for morning exams which began at 10.30 a.m.
However, he regretted that some students took it upon themselves to leave school without first informing the principal.
“It is important to note that students have every opportunity to take their exams, and that standards will continue to be enforced during the school year,” Dr. Christopher said.
