Four from 47 teams that started have emerged to contest the semi-finals of the second annual BIAS Adult-Child Squash Tournament next month.

In the pick of matches in the last eight, Simon and Alan Bergl narrowly defeated Gary and Norman Furtado in an exciting 4-3 match. The children were left to fight the decider, with Simon Bergl clawing back a nine-point deficit to draw level at 12 points apiece.

Nine-year-old Gary Furtado battled on bravely but Bergl held his serve to secure a 15-12 victory.

The Bergls will face Michael Shrubb and Mel Caines for a place in the final after they saw off the valiant Alistair and Mark Melvin 5-1.

The other semi will match Andrew and Bruce Robinson against Chloe and John Hourston.

The Robinsons were level with Graham and Tim Counsell when Graham Counsell had to concede the deciding game due to an injury, while the Hourstons overcame Sean Harvey and Mike Salo 4-2.

The winning child will receive a $500 investment for further education from the tournament sponsors.
