stop vandalism at the historic Somerset home Springfield.

The Trust has asked Minister of Transport the Hon. Ralph Marshall to consider moving or eliminating the stop because it says students waiting for the bus may be responsible for two bouts of vandalism at the property.

Trust president Mrs. Patsy Phillips said vandalism of the building has continued, putting a further strain on the organisation's limited resources despite donations from "two concerned persons''.

A 19th Century wall and fence leading to the Somerset building were severely damaged last month during two night-time attacks. The wall is believed to be one of only six of that style still in existence.

Springfield was also hit by vandals in 1992, when graffiti was painted on one side of the building.

Mrs. Phillips, said information gathered thus far points to persons -- "especially students'' -- who are waiting at the bus stop located at Springfield's gate on Somerset Road.

She said the Transport Ministry has been asked to consider moving or eliminating the stop.

The matter has also been referred to the Road Safety Council by the Trust because "the bus stop is dangerous in its present location''.
