Butterfield on slide

Butterfield Bank and BELCO Holdings Ltd. experienced a collective downturn in fortunes as their share prices slumped on the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday.

The Bank closed down five cents (0.3 percent) at $19.85, with 18,764 shares traded, while BELCO saw its share value nosedive 50 cents (2.3 percent) to finish on $21, as 8,300 shares changed hands.

BF&M Ltd. were the only other company to partake of any trading activity, as 1,250 shares were transacted.

Overall, the market closed down 17.19 points (0.34 percent) at 5,098.19.

The BSX Insurance Index, however, boosted its ratings further, climbing 1.22 percent to finish at 1,285.22.
