Hood hand out a lesson
Paget 1 Robin Hood 4
Robin Hood of the Commercial Division gave a footballing lesson to Paget yesterday, as they bossed the FA Cup first round tie at White Hill Field from start to finish.
Hood had the Lions chasing shadows as they played some slick soccer and it was no surprise when the restaurant team took the lead on 36 minutes.
Full back Alan Mooney, who constantly stretched the Lions defence with his raids down the right, darted into the penalty area and pulled the ball back for David Wolffe to shoot home from close range.
Wolffe and Mooney were also guilty of bad misses in a first half dominated by Hood.
In the second half the Commercial Division side were even more dominant and doubled their lead on 52 minutes when Jarlath McCabe rode two tackles and crossed from the left for Derek Stapley to fire in from eight yards.
Five minutes later, Hood striker Shane Brown made it 3-0 with a tap-in from point blank range after another excellent run and cross by Mooney.
Paul Towlson steered in a fine header from a McCabe cross, only to see it ruled out for offside, but the Hood midfielder finally got his name on the scoresheet 15 minutes from time.
Overworked Paget goalkeeper Wayne Smith made a hash of clearing a back pass and presented it to Towlson who calmly chipped the ball over his head and into the net from 18 yards.
The First Division team were out-battled, out-played and overrun. The one bright spot for Paget was an 89th-minute goal from Trevor Simons, who ran half the length of the field and took the ball round Hood goalkeeper Randy Darrell before steering in his consolation effort.
Lobster Pot 1
Prospect United 5
Prospect made it through to the second round of the FA Cup in a match which ended 10 a-side, but the scoreline at White Hill Field was harsh on Lobster Pot.
Three goals in the last five minutes put a flattering gloss on the result for the First Division side after Commercial Division Pot had missed a plethora of gilt-edged chances, including a penalty.
Prospect drew first blood in the 12th minute when Leonard Davis blasted into the net from eight yards after a corner, but Lobster Pot gradually settled and put the Police team's penalty area under siege in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
Tim Share missed two good chances and the ever-threatening Saleem Mukuddem missed another great opportunity when, clean through, he tried to chip the `keeper, but shot tamely straight at him.
But Prospect's closest shave came two minutes before the break when Mukuddem crossed from the right, James McLaren steered the ball goalwards and Philip Bailey handled to divert it wide.
Referee Cal Simons sent off Bailey and awarded a penalty, which Troy Berkeley hit well, but which `keeper Khun Evans dived to his right to save superbly.
Ten-man Prospect went 2-0 ahead in the 66th minute when Andrew Rollins diverted Clifford Roberts' volley from John Richmond's corner into the net.
Berkeley missed two more good chances, but finally put one way in the 75th minute to give Pot hope, beating Evans to a through ball before poking his shot past the last defender.
But Prospect effectively sealed their place in the second round five minutes from time. Richmond raced through a gap in the Pot defence and as he homed in on goal was brought down by Pot `keeper Brian Ward. Ward was sent off and Roberts despatched the spot-kick in emphatic style.
Substitute Leroy Mashurin made it 4-1 in the 89th minute, after latching onto a fine pass by Carlos Lopes, and Roberts side-footed his second and Prospect's fifth goal in injury time, converting Richmond's cross.
