Sailing success
While Peter Bromby and Lee White were staging a comeback in Athens, Bermuda?s youth sailors were competing at the freshwater CORK Regatta in Kingston, Ontario.
In the 29er Class, eighteen year olds James Doughty and Gareth Williams finished 4th out of 33 teams in the high performance skiff. The Bermudian team were in a position to win with three top 10 finishes in the 17 races, but suffered on the shifty and lightish penultimate day largely due to their combined heavy weight.
Jesse Kirkland and Oliver Kempe ? both 16 ? competed in the Laser Radial Class with 125 other boats which qualified into Gold and Silver fleets on the first day of racing.
Kirkland qualified for Gold with a first and sixth place, followed by a race which he did not finish.
Kempe however, fell to Silver after tallying finishing places of 15 and 25.
In the four day Championship series, Kirkland excelled in under 12 knots of wind and finished 5th out of 64 while Kempe showed he belonged in Gold by dominating Silver fleet to finish 1st out of 61 boats.
