Bermudian reggae singer features in BBC video celebrating Commonwealth Day
A Bermudian reggae singer has been seen by hundreds of thousands of viewers in a special BBC video recorded to celebrate Commonwealth Day 2021.
Desta “Zion” Wilson was included in “A Celebration For Commonwealth Day” singing a medley of the Bob Marley classics One Love and Three Little Birds with gospel accompaniment at Westminster Abbey.
Mr Wilson was runner-up in 2019’s Britain’s Got Reggaetelevision contest.
His Commonwealth Day solo starts at 8:20 on the video.
The event, broadcast on BBC One, featured a range of musical performances and readings, along with presentations from the Queen and other members of the Royal Family about the value of the Commonwealth.
An explanation on the video, which has so far had almost 300,000 views, says: “To mark Commonwealth Day, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II shares her annual address. Other members of the Royal Family, including the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex, join the celebrations and speak about why our Commonwealth links are so important.
“Presented by Anita Rani from Westminster Abbey, the celebration hears voices from across the world alongside music and readings, including performances by Nitin Sawhney, Lianne La Havas, Alexis Ffrench and a reflection by double Commonwealth gold medal-winning athlete Denise Lewis.“
