Stars stunned as Rec romp into Counties final
Police 120
Social Club 121?1
Dwayne (Streaker) Adams smashed an unbeaten 65 off 76 balls and Jemeiko Marshall claimed five wickets for 28 runs to catapult rejuvenated Social Club to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Police at Police Field and a berth in the Central Counties final.
After heavy showers dampened portions of the crease, Social Club won the crucial toss and sent their hosts in to bat with Marshall exploiting the conditions with deadly accuracy.
Marshall took the ball first change in the 13th over and picked up wickets with the first ball of his second over before adding to his haul in his third, fourth, fifth and eighth overs to leave Police in a total shambles.
Supporting Marshall were veteran Kenny Phillip who claimed two for 33 and Kevin Hurdle who seized two for 27 from ten overs.
Police were dismissed in only 34.4 overs and also had Social Club to thank for yielding 35 runs in extras.
Freston Hurdle top scored for Police with 22 off 33 balls containing three fours and a towering six over the long-on boundary. Opener David Bhagwan 18 (three fours) and tailender Rohan Henry (11) were the only other Police batsmen managing double figures.
Social Club then confirmed their place in the final with opener Adams ? better renowned for his football prowess ? in devastating form with the willow.
Adams, dropped shortly after reaching his half-century, hit ten fours and a six during his unbeaten knock and put on exactly 100 runs for the first wicket with Dennis Zuill who contributed 26 (three fours) to his team?s total before he became the sole Social Club wicket to fall, trapped leg before.
Social Club, playing without the ?resting? Glenn Blakeney, romped through to victory in 24.4 overs with nine wickets in hand.
