Almost recovered and raring to go
I'm in a race to be fit for the Digicel Cup and I can't wait to play for Bermuda and Kyle.
Things have been progressing pretty well and I'm happy my calf is now pretty much back to normal.
It is an endurance muscle, not a power one, that I've damaged and now I have come this far, I think I am going to be okay.
Unfortunately I have been suffering from some kind of fever for the last three or four days but I will be speaking to Kyle tomorrow and hopefully will be telling him I am okay to come back ? and then we can sort out my travel arrangements.
My original plan was to try and get a reserve game in for Reading before this tournament but it doesn't look like it is going to happen now.
I want to get a few days training in, though, so I am in the best possible condition for the first game against St. Vincent. I will be working on full sprints this week and the format of the tournament plays nicely into my favour.
But the pitches might be pretty hard out there, so I am going to have to be a little bit careful. I have talked it through with Kyle and we are not going to take any chances.
The BFA (Bermuda Football Association) have contacted Reading and requested permission for me to play and I have spoken to the gaffer about it and he is aware of my intentions.
I think they are happy that I am going to get some football under my belt and with three games in close succession it will give me a chance to get my match fitness back.
I have been working closely with our physio and he seems happy to give me the all-clear for these games as my calf doesn't seem to be giving me any more problems.
Hopefully I will be fit and ready to go because I can't wait to play for Bermuda again and do my bit to try and help us progress in this tournament.
I feel like I haven't played for ages ? although it is probably only about three weeks ? and I'm looking forward to getting back on a pitch again.
I'm excited to play for Kyle, we have spent a lot of time talking football over the years and we have very similar views on the way the game should be played.
I think he is going to do an excellent job for Bermuda and I hope I can play a productive part in that.
Looking at the teams in this tournament, I certainly can't see us having any problems against the British Virgin Islands.
I played against them when we beat them 4-1 at their place with only ten men for most of the game and then hammered them back at our place. I can't see that they would have improved much since then, so I don't think there is a lot to worry about there.
They tell me Cayman have beaten us in recent years, so that might be a much more competitive game. But I think we have a strong squad and with Kyle as coach, I think we should do well.
For me, the only real grey area is St. Vincent. I must admit that I don't know a lot about them but I'm sure the guys have been doing their homework and when we go into that game we will know what to expect from them.
