Berkeley run away with title

Inter-School Sports Day ended at National Stadium with Berkeley Institute taking the overall title.

Shar-Dae Whitter of CedarBridge Red and Zindzi Swan of CedarBridge Blue were the joint under-15 girls champions after both finished with 18 points from their three wins.

Whitter won the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres while Swan placed first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. CedarBridge Blue won the under-15 girls with 64 points while Warwick Academy placed second on 47 points and Berkeley third with 40.

Tschana Wade and Shanay Scott shared the over-15 girls title after they had two wins and a second in their three events.

Wade, of CedarBridge Red, was first in the 100 and 200 metres and second in the high jump while Warwick Academy's Scott won the high jump and 3000 metres and was second in the 800.

Warwick Academy were the champions in the over-15 girls, finishing with 76 points while Berkeley placed second on 65 and CedarBridge Red third (37).

No clear-cut winner emerged from the boys under-15 age group either as Calvon Butterfield, a member of the CedarBridge Blue team, and Henry Talbot of Saltus finished tied for first place. Butterfield won the sprints -- 100, 200 and 400 metres -- while Talbot was unstoppable in the middle distances, taking the 800, 1500 and 3000 metre titles.

Berkeley emerged as the top school for the under-15 boys, totalling 75 points while CedarBridge Blue were a distant second on 56 points and Saltus third on 48.

Richard Walcott was the only undisputed champion after two days of competition. The Berkeley student won the 800 and 1500 metres and was second in the 400 metres.

Again, Berkeley were the division winners, collecting a total of 79 points to win by the largest margin, 37, over CedarBridge (42) with Saltus one point behind in third place.

Berkeley emerged as the top overall school with 259 points while Warwick Academy placed second with 181 points and CadarBridge Blue third on 167.
