Butterfield shares gain ground

Shares of Butterfield Bank rose 0.7 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The bank added 25 cents to close on $39.50 as 3,464 shares changed hands.

Butterfield’s US-listed shares also gained ground, climbing $1.39, or 3.55 per cent, to close on $40.50 on the New York Stock Exchange, on above-average volume of 242,982 shares.

No other shares traded on the BSX as The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 13.41 points, or 0.52 per cent, to close on 2,609.88.

For the week, the index rose 113.24 points, or 4.33 per cent, driven by a 5.5 per cent increase in the value of Butterfield shares and a 5.6 per cent increase for Argus Group Holdings Ltd.

The BSX Insurance Index climbed 27 points, or 1.53 per cent, to close on 1,786.14.
