League title in balance as Renegades and Teachers seek points
On Sunday afternoon, local rugby action returns to the wonderful confines of the National Sports Complex on Frog Lane. With only three more matches left in the league competition and a scant three point margin separating lead leading Renegades and Teachers there is all to play for.
In the opening men's match at 1.30 p.m. Teachers must look to secure a bonus point win over the much improving Mariners if they are to keep their league aspirations alive.
Mariners are all but mathematically eliminated and will be relishing their role as spoilers. Also Green's coach Johann Oosthuizen will be looking to build momentum for the upcoming Nichol Shield tournament.
At 3.45 p.m. Renegades will look to further distance themselves from the chasing pack and secure their fourth league title in as many years with an empathic win over a hapless Police team who are currently on a six-game losing streak. Beleaguered Police captain Jamie Webb's side has a long shot chance of upsetting the apple cart and win the league but must score bonus points wins in all their remaining games and hope other results go their way.
In Ladies action, with a 1 p.m. kick-off time, Mariners will be looking for only their second victory of the season against second place Teachers who are still smarting from last weekend's mauling at the hands of league leading Renegades. Teachers are currently in second place but trail by eight points and need some results to go their way if they are to realise their first ever league championship. In the second game at 3.15 p.m. Renegades will be looking to secure their second League title in a row with a win against a dangerous Police squad.
