Teachers toast of league after battering Blues
Teachers yesterday became the first team since Renegades in 1985-86 and 1986-87 to win back-to-back Amstel League titles by beating a weakened Police outfit 25-9 at National Sports Club.
With tries from Alvin Harvey and Andre Simons, and five penalties from Kevin Harris, Teachers stomped over Police, league leaders until last week when Reds took firm control of the First Division.
Police, the class of the league early in the season and unbeaten until Christmas, once again showed the frustration of a late season slide when Terry Maxwell was sent off for kicking and punching a player. Two weeks ago captain Sean Field was banned for the last games of the season after a fight with Dave Conway of Mariners.
The score was deadlocked at 6-6 at the end of the first half when Harris and Blues counterpart Alan Oliver traded penalties.
But from the moment the second half began Teachers superiority showed.
