Wolves climb back on top
Devonshire Rec. when Wolves ended Devonshire Cougars' unbeaten run with a 3-2 win.
Wolves, who suffered losses to Hamilton Parish in the league and Cougars in the FA Cup on successive weekends in November, avenged that 4-0 hammering to Cougars by regaining the top spot they lost a month ago.
However, they had to battle hard for the victory. After Jomar Wilkinson shot them in front in the ninth minute, Cougars equalised in the 22nd minute through Kenneth Darrell and then took the lead four minutes into the second half through top scorer Philip Clarke.
But then it was Wolves' turn to score two unanswered goals as Vince Minors netted in the 67th minute to make it 2-2 and then struck the winner four minutes from the end to lift Wolves back into first place in the standings at the halfway stage of their season. They lead Cougars by two points.
Thursday's Second Division match followed a similiar pattern as the first match, a Commercial Knockout Cup encounter between Prison Officers and Fire Service.
Officers opened the scoring through Dennis Brown before Fire equalised to make it 1-1 at the half. They then took the lead early in the second half through Troy Furbert before Prison Officers netted twice more to win 3-2. Ed Lightbourne made it 2-2 and the winner came from Gregory Simons from the penalty spot.
Because there are fewer teams in the Second Division, and subsequently less games in their season, no matches in that division are scheduled for tomorrow.
The Second Division league campaign will resume on January 7.
