New coach for Soca Warriors
Trinidad under-23s have appointed a new coach ahead of next month's friendly matches in Bermuda.
Serbian Zoran Vranes will name his first squad this week in preparation for the Soca Warriors' three-match trip, which will see them play two games against Bermuda under-23s as well as defending Premier Division champions Devonshire Cougars.
Vranes, who previously coached the Trinidad senior national team, led the Trinidad to the Fifa under-20 World Cup in Egypt in September where they earned their first ever point in Fifa competition, after a draw against Paraguay.
His under-20 assistants, Anton Corneal and Hutson (Barber) Charles, both former Trinidad internationals, are expected to make up his backroom team.
The majority of Vranes under-23 Olympic team is likely to be made up of the player he worked with at under-20 level, said Corneal.
"You can expect players like Micah Lewis (Joe Public), Stephan Campbell (United Petrotrin) and Trevin Caesar (Ma Pau) to all be invited," Corneal said.
"The players that will be called up for training for the Olympic team and subsequent qualifiers will have to be 19 or 20 years as of now or younger.
"This will allow them to be able to compete at the Central American and Caribbean Games next year, (under-21), Pan American Games in two years time (under-22) and then the Olympics, which is an under-23 competition."
Trinidad will arrive in Bermuda without star player Jake Thompson who plays professionally with English side Southampton.
The promising midfielder has been denied permission to tour the Island by the Championship team.
The Soca Warriors take on Scott Morton's Bermuda under-23s on Monday December 28 and on New Year's Day for the inaugural BFA International Cup. They also face Devonshire Cougars on Wednesday December 30. The venues for the incoming tour have yet to be announced.
