Light failure forces change in schedule
scheduled tomorrow, while tonight's matches at PHC Stadium have been switched to Monday night at Somerset.
PHC were to have opened their season against Devonshire Cougars while Hamilton Parish were slated to meet Somerset Eagles in the 7.00 opener. But because of continuing light problems, PHC Stadium is still not available for night games.
Dandy Town, meanwhile, take on Vasco at St.John's Field in tomorrow's feature match.
Town and Vasco are among four teams who have advanced to the semi-finals of the Martonmere Cup and, with improvements made to their squads, both are expected to be in the hunt for silverware this season.
Town have boosted their defence by picking up central defenders Neil Paynter from St. George's and PHC's Dano Outerbridge. Vasco, after losing Corey Hill and Irving Burgess, have a new-look attack with the signings of Clay Smith, Shawn Simons and Ascento Russell.
Town coach Mark Trott will be anxious to see further improvement up front where both Carlos Smith and Derron Simons have yet to produce the lethal partnership expected of them.
With two solid performances already in the Martonmere Cup, Vasco appear capable of fully extending their opponents in a game that has Dandy Town slight favourites.
North Village, who like Town, Vasco and Boulevard, have advanced to the semi-finals of the Martonmere Cup, are already shown to be a composed group under new coach Kenny Thompson.
But they will have their hands full against Boulevard in a match which will see the the latter attempting to bounce back from last week's 3-0 trouncing at the hands of Vasco, although there was nothing at stake for Boulevard in that match as they had already clinched a semi-final spot.
Tomorrow's third game should also produce a close result with Southampton Rangers facing defending league champions Devonshire Colts at Southampton Oval. Both teams will be attempting to pick themselves off the floor after finishing last in their respective Martonmere Cup groups.
In the Second Division, Social Club play St. David's at PHC Stadium, Paget take on Wolves, one of the promotion favourites, at White Hill and St.
George's host Prospect at Wellington Oval.
A women's soccer team from the United States is visiting Bermuda this weekend to play two games against Island sides at Saltus field.
Bellirica Football Club, from north of Boston, were scheduled to play Rude Girls last night, and will meet Wolves today at 6.00 p.m.
