Second Division round-up

Second-from-bottom Social Club scored twice in the second half to send third-placed Hamilton Parish crashing to their first loss of the season at Wellington Oval yesterday.

Social Club, with just one win going into the match, looked headed for their fifth defeat when Parish took a 2-1 lead at the half. However, they kept the Parish defence under constant pressure and were rewarded with a well deserved victory.

Quinn Outerbridge had put Parish in front in the 17th minute only for Webster Mills to pull Social club back level in the 28th. The Parish lead was restored a minute before the break when Ernest Lathan netted.

However, the match changed in the second half when Social Club struck in the 51st and 70th minutes. The equaliser came when Dean Young scored with a free header at the far post after a cross from the left by Shawn Laws.

Laws hit the winner himself when he dribbled through the middle and placed a low shot out of the reach of the diving Walter Brangman in the Parish goal.

With Devonshire Cougars and Wolves not playing, victory for Parish would have lifted them into first place in the standings.

Prospect 1 BAA 5 BAA followed up their Shield win over Prospect in midweek with a convincing victory at Police Field as Craig Crichlow netted a hat-trick. Clevie Crichlow and Wayne DeSilva were the other scorers for BAA who led 3-1 at the half. John Richmond replied for Prpospect who slipped one place in the standings while BAA advanced two places with only their second win.

Paget 2 St. David's 2 Paget picked up their second point of the season as their draw against St.

David's meant that none of the bottom three teams lost yesterday.

St. David's wasted a good opportunity to move ahead of both Parish and Prospect who lost, but they were forced to share the points for the fourth time in six matches after Paget rallied from a 2-0 deficit at half-time.

Rudell Pitcher shot St. David's in front in the 15th minute before Sergio Goater made it 2-0 in the 23rd.

St. David's couldn't keep it going in the second half and allowed their opponents back in the game with veteran Dale Russell scoring in the 55th minute and Ivan Trott earning the point with a 66th minute equaliser.

Yesterday's match between the Second Division's top two teams at the Den became a casualty of the overnight rain as field operators reportedly refused to allow the game to proceed despite an effort by the referee to get it started.

Cougars went into the match with just a one point lead over Wolves, with Hamilton Parish and Prospect a further one and two points off the pace.

However, the results worked in favour of Cougars and Wolves as the two teams behind them both lost while St. David's dropped points.
