in Supreme Court yesterday to three years in prison after pleading guilty to 24 criminal charges.

The 26-year-old acknoweledged his cocaine addiction fueled a crime spree that saw him break into at least 18 buildings.

"I'm not a bad person trying to be good,'' Williams told Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Ground. "I'm a sick person trying to get well.'' He apologised to his family and loved ones and said his arrest and conviction had "opened my eyes to my drug problem''.

Crown counsel Mr. Brian Calhoun described Williams as a "one man crime wave.

Williams has explained that his activity was due to his addiction to crack cocaine.'' Mr. Tim Marshall, representing Williams, said his client had "confessed at an early stage to all the offences.'' He added that Williams had not been helped by Addiction Services despite his attendance at the drug treatment centre.

"Addiction Services is less than adequate, and has limited services,'' he said. "Bermuda is still behind trying to catch up. It's too easy to slip by the way-side and not attend.'' In early August, the 26-year-old Williams pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to seven charges which included breaking and entering and a drug offence.

The Somerset Trojans 'keeper also pleaded guilty to three traffic offences relating to a stolen car. Fourteen other offences relating to burglaries were also admitted. He was then sent to the Supreme Court for sentencing.

The magistrate heard how Williams broke into the home of Eddie Plant and Paul Acton in Hamilton Parish where he stole a black wallet containing $5 in coins, a $275 wrist watch and $80 in cash.

Williams also attempted to steal from a house in St.

George's but was spotted by the owner, causing him to flee empty handed.

He was also spotted on a stolen auxiliary cycle on South Shore Road in Smith's but escaped leaving the cycle behind.

Another charge concerned a break-in at a house in Smith's Parish where Williams stole a wallet containing $70 from Charles Emilio.

He also took keys to steal Emilio's car. He was spotted driving the car on Court street where he attempted to race from Police.

Williams was subsequently charged with driving in a dangerous manner, driving without a licence and driving without third party insurance.

When searching Williams, Police found a crack pipe and charged him with possession of drug equipment.

During yesterday's sentencing Williams said that being sentenced in the Supreme Court opened his eyes to his drug problem.

Mr. Ground sentenced Williams to three years for breaking and entering and theft, three years for breaking and entering and attempted theft, one year for attempted theft, three years for breaking and entering and theft, one year for attempted theft, one year suspension from all vehicles, and three years for breaking and entry and theft.

All the sentences are to run concurrently.
