Banks boost BSX to weekly gain

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange index gained 38.181 points or 1.55 percent last week to close at 2468.40. A total of 68,586 shares worth $2,465,064 were traded.

The banking sector was the most active with the Bank of Bermuda posting a $1 increase or 2.22 percent to close the week at $46 with volume of 38,313 shares.

The Bank of Butterfield gained 75 cents or 2.65 percent to close the week at $29 on volume of 21,943 shares.

Bermuda Commercial Bank warrants fell five cents or 4.76 percent to close the week at $1 after 200 shares were traded.

LOM Holdings Ltd. fell 35 cents or 9.09 percent to close at $3.50 with 4,000 shares traded.

In the local insurance sector, Argus slid five cents or 0.23 percent to close the week at $21.45 on volume of 2,800. BF&M remained unchanged at $8.25 despite 1,113 shares being traded.

In the media, printing and publishing sector, Island Press Holdings gained 25 cents or 5.88 percent to end the week at $4.50 on volume of 100 shares.

And in the Utilities sector, KeyTech Ltd. fell $3 or 6.82 percent to end the week at $41 on volume of 117 shares.
