A man was rushed to hospital with cuts to his back and head, but later released, a Police spokesperson said.

Witnesses told The Royal Gazette yesterday that the victim was one of the supermarket's managers and that a disgruntled man had chased him.

A shopper claimed he looked up after hearing screams and saw the manager running towards him "hotly pursued by a man with a machete''.

As the manager reached the door, the man "chopped him across his arm'', the witness claimed.

"There were a lot of hysterics -- people screaming and running to get out of the way,'' he said.

The witness claimed that people outside the supermarket managed to wrestle the machete away from the man, but not before he stabbed the manager again, this time in the head.

The incident occurred around 3.30 p.m., the witness said.

There have been no arrests yet. Anyone who can help Police with their investigation is asked to call Det. Sgt. Stuart Crockwell.
