Days after experiencing witnessing the Boston Marathon bombing, Bermuda’s runners are set to lace up again to support those affected by the blasts. In advance of this Sunday’s RMS Construction 10K and 20K, a team of runners will be giving out black ribbons in exchange for donations to the ‘One Fund’ for the victims of the bombing.Rose-Anna Hoey was one of 16 Bermudian runners who competed in Monday’s Boston Marathon, which ended tragically after a pair of explosions killed three and injured more than 170.“It was utter chaos and devastation in the community,” she said. “A group of us got together and talked, and we decided that we should do something to help those affected.“The RMS 10K and 20K run was always on the race calender, and a few of us were going to use this as a cool-off from the Boston Marathon on Monday,” she said.“We thought this was a wonderful opportunity and spoke to the raise organisers who gave us the go ahead.”She said the group decided to wear and sell black ribbons to show solidarity with those hurt or killed in the blasts, while raising funds to support those harmed.“Even if people are not taking part, we hope they will come in, donate, and pick up a ribbon to support the cause,” Mrs Hoey said.Ribbons will be available for purchase between noon and 2pm on Saturday at the Sports Cellar in Washington Mall.
