Governor's car parked in the wrong place
Another Friday, another official car parked illegally in a loading zone.
This time, it was Governor Sir Richard Gozney's vehicle spotted and photographed by a Royal Gazette reader at the airport last Friday at about 6.45 p.m.
According to eyewitnesses, the Governor himself wasn't there, but he issued an apology yesterday afternoon after being contacted by this newspaper.
"A Government House mistake; our apologies. We'll try not to do it again," said Sir Richard in an e-mail.
The official driver had stopped illegally outside the British Airways section of L.A. Wade International Airport for about 20 minutes to pick up two visitors arriving from the UK.
Seven days earlier, Premier Ewart Brown's GP1 car had been photographed parked in a Hamilton bus station loading zone despite bus drivers repeatedly complaining about members of the public parking there.
Drivers had gone on work-to-rule, causing chaos for commuters, to protest against safety hazards created by such illegal driving.
The Premier's Press Secretary Glenn Jones initially blamed the driver and issued a statement saying the Premier was not in the BMW when the picture was taken.
However, after eyewitnesses explained they'd seen Dr. Brown getting out of the car when it pulled into the spot, the Premier later went on the radio to say he'd been going for a haircut.
