P. Diddy talent search comes to Bermuda
Hip-Hop, R&B mogul and fashion entrepreneur Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs has been searching around the US and UK for talented individuals to be a part of his touring campaign and now the search has come to Bermuda.
Tomorrow morning prospective models are invited to audition at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess during the Bad Boy Model Search event.
The local organiser Jarizhino Simmons of MULTI Entertainment told The Royal Gazette that the event will offer talented individuals of all ages, shapes and sizes, an opportunity to showcase their talents internationally.
"P. Diddy's aim is to gather the most talented and appealing models to appear in his music videos, reality shows, magazine ads for his clothing line (Sean John), and various other projects that the CEO of Bad Boy Entertainment (B.B.E.) has in store," explained Mr. Simmons.
Mr. Combs is a multi platinum recording artist and music producer, and is responsible for the extremely successful careers of some of the biggest musical entertainers of the modern generations such as The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, 112, Mase, Jodeci, L'il Kim and Faith Evans to name only a few.
"Currently, P. Diddy is in the fourth season of his MTV reality show, Making The Band. He has put some of his promotional team together to find promoters that can assist him in his journey to find fresh talents to help with his various campaigns," she said.
"Managers from this team have caught wind of the various projects that MULTI Entertainment has produced. Highly impressed with our antics, vision, and professionalism, these managers have sought out our assistance to bring this model search to the Island with hopes of giving residents an opportunity of a lifetime without having to vacate the Island to do so."
On having the opportunity to showcase the local talent, Mr. Simmons said: "We were extremely surprised when we got offered this opportunity to host this project, because Bermuda is not a really huge market for most large organisations to try and venture towards due to its size and limited resources in the industry.
"We where a bit intimidated with the idea of taking on the project at first, being P. Diddy is known to be such a strict and hard person to please. But we strictly focussed on the idea of our own local folk getting a chance to excel and afford themselves and opportunity to chase a dream basically."
The event will be held over two days with the first taking place between the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Barr's Bay Park tonight (Friday).
Tonight there will be a welcome party entitled 'Kold As Ice – The White Party' in the Fairmont Hamilton's Harbourview Ballroom from 10 p.m.
The event will feature both local and international acts, and patrons will be entertained by some of Bermuda's best DJs, as well as Bad Boy Entertainment's DJ D-Roc, who is actually blind.
Patrons are asked to wear as much of an all white attire as they can with at least one small red item of clothing in support of non-violence.
For aspiring models and others the search begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Mr. Simmons said: Various scouts, both B.B.E. affiliates and domestic, will deliberate who they deem suitable to represent any area of the various Bad Boy brands.
"This 'two-part' event begins at 9 a.m. with applicants arriving at the Princess Room of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess with two 8x10 photos (a head shot and a full body shot – professional photo not required) and will have a brief seminar before they audition to take part in the main model showcase, which is being held later that evening.
"This preliminary event will see numerous Bermudians, infants to young and middle aged adults, showcase themselves briefly in front of the scouts in an organised manner."
Applications can be picked up at and returned to Qui-Ja Fabrics and Perry Footwear at a cost of $40 and they are accepting walk-ins, but be there by 8.45 a.m. – 9 a.m. and please note that the open-audition or closed session ends when the last model has showcased themselves.
"We would like to get everyone situated because we don't know how many people will do walk-ins and we have to get the accepted models mentally prepared for the evening."
Those who are selected will then proceed to the next stage and will showcase themselves once again to the best of their ability at the gala event later in the evening at Barr's Bay Park in front of their friends, family and peers.
Within the showcase segments of the event, the audience will be entertained by local acts such as Lady Tyson, Olivia Hamilton, Slanger, The Secret, and the 2 Fools.
Celebrity Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis will also be in attendance. Following the show, patrons will proceed to enjoy an after party on the grounds with music by DJ Mikey B, and Bad Boy's DJ D-Roc and DJ Kut.
He wanted to encourage everyone to come on out and support these events.
"We especially want all those who have a great personality and uniqueness about themselves to come out and audition for the model search event, because $25 or $40 is a very small price to pay for the chance of a lifetime and a potentially awesome opportunity to work with an elite company such as Bad Boy Entertainment," he said.
"We are stressing that this in not a competition in the least – it's merely a scouting opportunity.
"There is no single 'winner'. Many and/or everyone theoretically can potentially be asked to do the evening event and there, in turn, be signed into Bad Boy Entertainment's database. This event is also not based on the prettiest face. Modelling is about personality as well as or more important than an actual look.
"It's about a style, a personality. Hence the reason the event is open to all ages, all shapes and sizes. With the various and numerous campaigns that P. Diddy is involved in, there is bound to be something for a few of our Bermudians to get involved in.
"We are beautiful people as a whole, so now it's time to show someone who has taken the time out of their schedule to give us this chance. With everyone logged onto Facebook nowadays, there are many pictures out there of folk showing their confidence in themselves by posing and enjoying themselves in front of a camera for the world to see.
"We're looking for the same thing from all those who audition. Our motto towards these people is simply don't save your sway and your best looks just for Facebook.
"Let's get it. Take the chance. Chase the dream. Good luck to everyone."
