Goal-happy Onions full of confidence

Commercial Division A leaders MR Onions go into Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Robin Hood on a high after crushing former champions Key West Rangers 8-1 on Saturday.

Onions flew into a 3-0 lead with Eoghan O'Dwyer netting two goals and Niall Baillie getting one in a blistering 20-minute spell.

Key West's renowned passing game gradually brought them back into the first half and they were unlucky not to reduce the arrears when they had a shot headed off the line.

But the game was effectively over when Baillie scored his second goal early in the second half. O'Dwyer then went on to complete his hat-trick, and goals from Ben Readdy, Matt Ashfold and Colin Keane followed.

Key West's goal came direct from a fine Earl Richardson free kick from the edge of the box.

Onions are now six points clear of Hood who stuffed Somerset Extros 6-0.

In a tight first half when Extros created as many chances as the Hood, the home side could consider themselves unlucky to be 1-0 down to a rare goal by veteran sweeper Colin McQueen in the 40th minute.

Similar to the Manchester United v Newcastle game the same day, the floodgates opened in the second half with Steven Simons grabbing two and Kenny Dill, Teddy Terceira and David Outerbridge adding to the Hood tally for a final score of 6-0.

Dandy Town Roots are third after playing out a 0-0 draw at BAA with Town having the majority of the possession but the home side carving out the better of what few chances there were.

North Village are fourth after hammering Valley 7-3 with former Bermuda ace Shaun Goater bagging a hat-trick while Casey Simons, Damon Wade and Stephen Coddington were among the other scorers. Jonathan Eve got two for Valley while Craig Darrell was also on target.

Lobster Pot beat fellow strugglers Tuff Dogs 2-1. Mark James vindicated his first start of the campaign by hammering home after the Dogs keeper dropped the ball. James then flicked on to Gary Richardson whose shot was finished off by Joey Azman.

Pot lost their shape in the second half and with ten minutes to go Lovintz Tota scored as Tuff Dogs piled on the pressure but were kept at bay by some stout goalkeeping by Brian Ward.
