Hoteliers join first day of Toronto Road Show
Hoteliers promoted the Island in Toronto yesterday.
Representatives from Cambridge Beaches, Grotto Bay and Rosedon Hotel pitched their properties and the Island to Canadian tour operators and travel agents.
The presentations took place at the Oakville Golf Club, Sheraton Toronto Hotel and Conference Centre and the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Alex Madeiros CEO of To-A-Tee Ltd. was also on hand to showcase Bermuda's golf product. He said promoting the Island's Golf and Spa season, which takes place during the depth of Canadian winter between November and March, would help entice visitors.
"This trip is extremely important for us, especially with the Canadian market," Mr. Madeiros said. "There are a lot of golf travellers from this particular area and being able to share our golf product with our Canadian visitors, with the great packages that we have now, is critical. So I am really excited about this whole opportunity."
Tourism director William Griffith added that having face-to-face conversations with the people who drive business to Bermuda is the most important way to ensure tourism success.
He said: "A close relationship with the travel industry is a great asset to Bermuda as a destination, and the Island is continuously aiming to strengthen our relationship with each travel agency we conduct business with.
"What the agents in Canada are witnessing first-hand is the undeniable charm and hospitality of the Island through the presentations of our hoteliers. We are talking up our attractions, our activities and special package deals, all of which have been very well received.
"But the most important thing to recognise is that although individually our hoteliers represent different properties, together they represent Bermuda tourism, so this is a wonderful team effort by all involved."
Canadian travel agent Ann Sinclair, who lived in Bermuda for nearly two decades and left in 1974, was at yesterday's event.
She told a department spokeswoman: "I fell in love with the Island then, and I am still in love with it now. I took a group of travellers to the Island by cruise in 2007 and I am bringing a group back to Bermuda next year and I cannot wait, because there is no other island that will ever touch Bermuda."
Events continue today in Ottawa and on Thursday the group travels to Montreal.
