Shine on
Bermudian performer June Ventzos is the guest artist at Shine Hayward?s Jazz Supper this weekend.
Two events will support the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, an organisation searching for a cure for the auto-immune disease.
The events are designed to celebrate Mr. Hayward?s 50th birthday. On Friday there is a Happy Hour-styled event and the second, on Saturday, is a black-tie affair at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.
There is nothing ordinary about Ms Ventzos (pictured below), who describes herself as a vibrant musical dynamo.
?I am tingling with anticipation when I think about my upcoming appearance at the Jazz Supper in aid of Multiple Sclerosis,? she said.
?In fact, I am in such an amazing place that I wanted to share exclusively with a truly intimate view of my life and lessons that have made me so happy, healthy and successful.
?I am so excited and honoured to participate in this venue with Shine Hayward, who has been my good friend for over 20 years. When he asked me to come to Bermuda and perform it brought back such wonderful memories and how could I refuse? This is such an important event for MS and after reading Shine?s story in and following up with many other publications regarding this disease, I now realise the many thousands of lives who have been affected.?
She couldn?t resist the opportunity to help raise awareness in Bermuda. ?It is humanitarians like Shine Hayward and individuals around the globe that will help find a cure for this terrible, crippling disease.
?This fundraiser is essential in helping exterminate MS once and for all from our society and we can all do our part by sharing in this wonderful venue.
?Bermuda, let?s make this fundraiser an over-the-top success, or in Shine?s words, ?let?s all live for today and hope for tomorrow?. Let?s rock!?
Her influences vary, but she describes herself as ?old school?.
?I have chosen a collection from Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary J. Blige and Stevie Wonder.
?I am a different kind of artist, but the uniqueness transcends in my music. It?s from my life and my experiences. It?s the same me, but different because of how much I have learned and grown. I am an evolving person and forever learning.?
Ms Ventzos has had a wonderful and successful career in the music industry both in Bermuda and New York.
?However, eventually I had to take care of health and behavioural issues,? said the singer.
?I was clear when I said, ?If you are not careful your life can diminish rapidly when you are in the spotlight, in this case, the of music industry I had to deal with ownership, which is a challenge within itself. This reality was the deciding factor for me to leave Bermuda.?
In the past, she said she had searched for love in the wrong people and places.
?I now have a whole new spiritual and mental connection and my life and my music are now individual pieces of work that require both a purpose and reason,? she said.
?I learned the hard way that creative art requires a utility and without the divine intervention from the higher power I am powerless. But now rejuvenated spiritually, I?m in love with life and love what I do and that is what drives me.?
When she left Bermuda, her mother fell gravely ill and had to deal with serious health issues, but this eventually opened a whole new career for her.
?My mom was my rock and personal role model. She was honest and always there for me.?
?Everything I am is because of her. After her passing I established a whole new career. I was instrumental in the launch of CT Screening International, a well-known company with a national market presence
in the business of full body scans. It was the body scan was the technology that diagnosed my mother?s illness.
?The experience I received there initiated the opening of Elective Medical Professionals, which is my own company that I share with my fianc?. It is a consultant and marketing firm in the health care
industry and as of today we market 11 diagnostic and preventative health care facilities throughout the United States.?
